I’ve been preparing my notes for an upcoming presentation on my honours research, which has had the function of forcing me to sum up my work in a few brief sentences:
“Deliberate Regression: Romanticism in Computer Animation”
My research is focused on the application of Romanticism to Computer Animation, and seeks a common context between the contrasting forces of personal expression and digital simulation that lie at the heart of the medium. By developing awareness of the predominantly technological and commercial contemporary trends in computer animation, and through the theoretical and practical application of Romanticism to the medium, my research emphasises the importance of more artistic, personal and emotional creative work.
